403 Stainless Steel Plate Description

403 stainless steel, also known as UNS S40300, is a martensitic stainless steel with high chromium content and low carbon content. It is commonly utilized in applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance. The chromium content in 403 stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for use in harsh environments. It also exhibits good mechanical properties, including high hardness, toughness, and wear resistance. However, it may not be as corrosion-resistant as other stainless steels such as 304 or 316, and therefore may not be suitable for use in highly corrosive environments. The presence of Nickel in 403 stainless steel helps in forming stable austenite, providing the steel with enhanced strength, plasticity, and toughness, as well as excellent hot and cold workability, cold formability, weldability, low-temperature performance, and non-magnetic properties. Additionally, Nickel improves the thermodynamic stability of 403 stainless steel.
